Hurricane

You weren’t easy to wash away,

but you were never easy to get to either.

I guess we just lost our way

In this forest of memories, delirious.

Allusions and cheap thrills

are all the rage these days.

I chased the sunrise

over my thunder of a life for eight years

Thinking it was you, hoping it could be

and then in the thick of the fire it was me.

And I swarmed like a Hurricane and

Wiped away the girl you once thought you knew.

I was so terrified of feeling without you

that I never realized I had more feelings

without you.

So that’s all my fault, my grief;

I didn’t mean to string you along

In my wicked plans you never loved, anyway.

In the eye of my storm there was myself,

once lost, still lost

Searching for a place to watch a sunrise

Completely by her design.
